In addition to the General Requirements, international applicants from non-English speaking countries must have a working knowledge of English and meet the following minimum score requirements on the TOEFL or IELTS exam:

IELTS: Minimum score = 7.0
TOEFL:

  • Internet-Based Test (TOEFL iBT): 98
  • Computer-Based Test: 233
  • Paper-Based Test: 577

Applicants taking the Paper-Based TOEFL exam must also submit the following individual tests:

  • Test of Written English (TWE): 4.0 minimum score
  • Test of Spoken English (TSE): 40 minimum score


Official TOEFL scores can be sent to CUSSW using our ETS institution code 2158. Applicants are not automatically exempt from this requirement if they have received a degree from an institution whose language of instruction is English. Please contact the Office of Admissions for more information.

In addition, an interview will be required of applicants who are not U.S. Citizens or Permanent Residents and who are citizens of non-English speaking countries. The Admissions Committee will contact applicants to set up the interview following submission of the online application.
